Wasted Wisdom

Proverbs 4:7: Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Wisdom is a horrible thing to waste. I believe this is a correct quote of something my Pastor said in a recent message, but it may be a paraphrase. It was as if I heard the quote in slow motion. I did not recognize the importance of it at first. When we don*t seek God*s guidance we become vulnerable to the attacks of Satan. When we do not seek the guidance of God in every decision, large or small, we give Satan an opening.

God is the wisest Being. That is a gross understatement. When we reject the best available wisdom, God*s wisdom, we won*t get the best results. His wisdom is available to those with Christ in their hearts who ask for it.

1 Corinthians 1:30: But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

James 1:5: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

God knows everything about everything, even the future. By comparison, we know next to nothing. The wisest thing we can do is ask Him for His wisdom and guidance in every decision we make. Our problem is that we don*t always ask for His wisdom.

God*s wisdom is revealed in black and white in the Bible. If we are not studying the Bible as much as we possibly can, we won*t have the framework where His wisdom fits.

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Proverbs 11:30: The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

James 3:17: But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

A wise man is one who receives Christ, studies the Bible, applies it to his life, asks the Lord for the wisdom he doesn*t find in the Bible, shares the gospel, is peaceable, gentle, open-hearted, merciful, impartial and genuine.
